Yeah, The suv sounded like a plan.. I dunno if KT will like driving the Suburban whilst I am away.. I cannot afford to drive that gas guzzler that far.. If Gas doest go down a plane ticket doest sound all that bad.

Sedstar,
How ya feel about flying? Alot better than 20 hours of driving? I dunno , I think it is 7 hours from my house to yours.. Might be able to meet ya at the air port..

If I had a long drive like that I would certainly opt to fly. However, I could only imagine the aggravation and grief from the airlines and the TSA trying to take firearms with you. I've heard some good stories and some horror stories in regard to flying with your firearms. I guess a lot has to do with the State, the airline, and the TSA agents you have to deal with.

The last flight I took was down to Florida with the girls. There were no firearms, but both girls (just under 2 at the time) had their own tickets to ensure a seat so we could secure them in their car seats. I thought we would have more of a problem at the NY airport than at the Orlando airport where they deal with kids all the time. It was just the opposite.

Not only were the NY TSA agents more friendly, but they helped us with the girls and the carryon luggage. The Orlando TSA were rude, didn't offer to help at all, and then complained that we (wife, two girls, myself, 5 carryon pieces, the double stroller, and two car seats) were holding up the line. I thought I was going to be removed from the boarding area after telling one of them off severely (in my best NYC attitude tones) and demanded to see his supervisor. He was very apologetic after that, but the aggravation had already set in.

On top of that, the flight attendants on the plane from Orlando back to NY were horrible. Once we landed, we waited for everyone to exit the plane before we even tried to get the kids and our stuff out. I had to make several trips in and out of the plane while my wife stayed on the jet-way with the girls. What really ticked me off was with all this tighter security, on my last trip out of the plane, I was the only one on board. The flight crew and attendants were already gone. The cockpit door was left wide open and easily accessible. Can we say huge security risk?
So much for tighter security.

RobDW --- while booze is out of fashion for me for, oh, maybe 15 years or so, lmao, my coffee and mountain dew intake is nothing short of legendary. I have been known to drink out of a 2L MtDew bottle like it was a 12oz, LMAO. This drinking of MtD and coffee by the gallon DOES make for a heck of a natural diuretic, I have to pee as often as a beer drinker, hee hee.

Do I want to fly? Hm, let me think about that for about, oh, 3 femtoseconds, LMAO (AGGGGHH!!) two things come to mind. one, getting GUNS thru an airport can be problematic and time consuming; we would have to call all airports very much ahead of time to avoid delays. God forbid we have the famous "luggage in san francisco; humans in Maine" syndrome... we would spend our time there w/o firearms, and likely get into some sort of mischief, idle hands and all that rot, hee hee. TWO...

you must have missed my earlier posts on me and flying. As a young man in the AF, I was sometimes required to fly commercial and had never previously been on an airplane. It was exciting and I thought I would be OK. I was sort of OK until looking out the window and couldnt help noticing how MUCH the wings flap around. I found this disconcerting, lmao.

I brought it to the stewardes's attention, who told me "thats normal". I kept LOOKING at it, and got progressively more worked up about it. After a time, the stewardess had no problem getting people around me that WANTED to exchange seats with me, lol. With no window, I then started to VERBALIZE my nervousness to people around me. Apparently, this triggered several other peopel around me who were "marginal" about flying into nervousness too. I pointed out the wings flapping in the breeze and noted how it resembled fred flintstone airlines; we were flying on a pterodactyl.

The stewardess's, and one steward-person, who kind of BOUNCED around serving food and drinks, if you catch my meaning, and i think you do, hee hee, well, they tried to calm my nervousness to little or no degree of success; OKAY, they had NO success.

Someone noted that once a certain height in the air, at 18 I was legal to drink booze; I wasnt real intrerested in drinking alcohol; it quickly became "on the house", what did I want to drink? LOL. Since i didnt really drink too much before then, one heineken began to have a predictable relaxing, calming effect. They promptly provided free refills, and by two or three, I was no longer nervous, and a NEW problem arose, me cracking WISE about wrecking, hee hee.

a heineken or two further, had me softly singing to myself, and leafing thru magazines, and everybody was more-or-less satisfied. After that, I knew I was afraid of flying in general, and would actively seek out long bus transports by BUS, or anything else that was available that did not involve flying. Rather kind of HUMOROUS, being in the AirForce and being afraid of flying, when you think about it.

When FORCED onto airplanes for tansportation, I knew how to handle it; a couple stiff drinks and i was okay. Note obviously THAT is not an option now that i cant drink, LMAO. A few friends have kindly suggested that valium would be an acceptable substitute and have the same general effect, LMAO.

As you can figure, 9-11 did absolutely NOTHING to make me more willing to "fly the friendly skies", hee hee.

Now, THAT said, everyone feel free to have humor at my expense, and post JPG's of SEDSTAR's head superimposed on the image of a chicken, LMAO. I can take it.

If I HAVE to fly, its that much cheaper, OK, I can do it if i HAVE to. You will no doubt obtain some degree of entertainment out of observing me dig my fingers white-knuckled into the armrests, particularly during take off and landing, when wrecks are much more likely. You will want to threaten me physically against looking out the window. I understand there is no more SMOKING on airliners now, so I better be able to RUB, lmao.

I womder if Nyquil PM will have a soothing calming effect on me?

I can fly, and it will be funny, the cheapskate in me will recognize the value of it if need be; once i the air I will regret the decision mightily, as might passengers around me, lmao. I will need a fellow traveler for moral support, LMAO.

I would PREFER swim up the east coast or paddle a canoe up there, LMAO. But, if i must, I must (shudder). Being a self defense instructor, placing me PHYSICALLY on the plane should be less problematic for you than other people, lmao.

great, I'm FLYING up there, woo-hoo. yippee. I can barely conain (yawn) my excitement, lmao.

I can do it. Tough guys are not afraid to fly, right? Hm. I gues I HAVE to then, hee hee.

PS - in an entirely UNRELATED topic, are there any liscensed physicians here that would be willing to provide a "scrip" for, say, 5 or 6 valiums or something similar? LMAO

OK, so how about making this official for the weekend of August 5th and 6th? So far the Dover Days Inn looks like the least expensive lodging at $218.48 (including taxes) for Saturday (8/5) and Sunday (8/6) nights. It also includes free Continental Breakfast, which might not be the heartiest of breakfasts, but that just tells me that there is plenty of coffee.

According to the map, it appears to be about 10-12 miles from the gun club, but Clayt should know better on the actual distance. Clayt, you can have a flyer/newsletter made to announce this match/meet? This might be a good idea just to cover ourselves in regard to transporting firearms as proof of an official organized event.

The Saturday night Lobster Feed sounds very good to me too! The wife is allergic to seafood so I don't get to enjoy it very often. I'm looking forward to this immensely.

So should we start on some type of schedule of events? I've never been in any type of organized shoot. The only thing I know is that you have to hit the X-Ring as often as possible. I would imagine we could have at least three events with pistols, rifles, and shotguns for trap. I'll let others who have experience in matches figure out the exact events.

We could even have an entry fee for a few dollars per event to go towards a first place prize. Although, bragging rights back on the board would most likely suffice. I'll also look into the tee shirts again and see if I can get the vendor to make a small batch of them. Last I spoke to them they wanted 36 orders before making a run. We never did get the minimum amount.

Anything else that has been left out or forgotten? I'd really like to see this work out. I feel like I already know a lot of you personally. It would be nice to put a face to the name. Even if we don't get into shooting a match, burning some powder for a weekend is still a good time! I'd like to make reservations as early as possible too. I'd hate to have things come together only to find out there are no vacancies or have to pay last minute higher rates. That would absolutely .

So who is up for a weekend of shooting, lots of fresh Maine lobsters and steamers, and getting away from the usual weekend routine and honey-do list? Not to mention, the Kittery Trading Post looks like it needs to be visited at least once too!

Okay, first hurdle is over for me...

I delicately opened negotiations with "BooBoo" about the possibility of a "guys night out" that lasted a couple of days.

Turnde out, she was plannign on going with a few "girls" from work on vacation preliminarily, and the first week of august was their rough time frame, too. Talk about "its better to be lucky than good", LMAO

so, rather than the arguing/cajoling I anticipated, she thought it was a great idea i take off my myself for a couple days. So, barring any major catastrophes, financial or otherwise, I am beginning to think about this in a more realistic fashion.

Sed,
You have half a year to put some away for the trip "up north". I already started doing that and if worse came to worse and this didn't happen, I'd have some money set aside for a new gun.

MC,

So is August 5th and 6th still good for you?

I think the first two hours of each day should be devoted to listening to me whining about paying over a 100 bucks a night for a place to stay. (you should have heard me down in Key West where the going rate for a converted phone booth was $275 per). Don't forget that I'm a old retired fart on a fixed income.
Can I bring a tent? and rent out sleeping space?

If the Dover is the hotel of choice, has anyone put out some feelers about "group rates" or special amenities?? If nothing else, a hospitality room?

Don't worry Bee, I'll be whining about it too! If you haven't done so already, check out some of the other lodging in the area. A lot of B&B's and Inn's sucking $150 and up, per night from your wallet. The Days Inn in Dover was the least expensive that I found. We might be able to get a group rate, but I think we would need to guarantee a certain number of reservations. I wonder if they give discounts to "twinky star members"?

If others are seriously interested in this, they should speak up and be heard so we could look into a group rate. While I'm not retired, I'm working on being an old fart, and my income gets cleaned out by my girls.

Well, Clayt suggested NOT to stay in Kittery but didn't give any reason. Perhaps Kittery might have a No-tell Motel that charges by the hour. You'd have to ask him.

Most Kittery Motels are not up to the standards that I would recommend, some others are big $$$.

I tried to ask a waitress at the breakfast place if she knew a good local motel and she slapped my face!

Clayt,

How "Official" can we make this? Would you able to make some sort of flyer or newsletter announcing the "RLB Stock 2006" event?

There shouldn't be any problems traveling through most States with longarms. Handguns on the other hand are another story. For me, unless I get stopped and have the vehicle searched (which is highly unlikely, but not impossible), no one will be the wiser as to what is in the vehicle.

However, in the unlikely event that someone is stopped/searched having an official announcement would have a lot more validity for transporting firearms across State lines. I'd rather play it safe than ruin a good weekend and a lot of planning.

I will come up with a flyer. Official and all. Think about it, there will be NRA Certified instructors, organized shooting events and a Civilian Marksmanship Program qualifier all at a bonified shooting facility.

I'm working on a "link" that will have a printable page with the flyer, with Club Official trademark and maybe a page with something like "you have been registered to attend this event".

Sounds good Clayt. Whatever the file type of the flyer (HTM, HTML, PDF, etc.) I could put it up on this site too for download/printing. I can also scan whatever you makeup and convert it to a PDF file too if that would help. Just let me know.

Hey, we resemble that remark... I can see the ten RLB commandments..

1. Thou shall not blow anything up..
2. Thou shall not assault wildlife..
3. Thou shall not be any dancing and touching of the nipples in a provocative way..
4. Thou shall not be any guns larger than 50 caliber/ and or take part in any exploding projectiles.....
5. Thou shall not eat from the roadsides/ deer, turkey or any small game..

That should be a good start..lmao Can we handle it Sed?

All kidding aside, Clayt is hosting this at his club so his gun clubs rules and guidelines should be strictly adhered to. Other than that, knowing some of you from here over the years, I think this will be a great time. Tim, you should definitely see if you can make it! And Tgully, I hope you make it too so we can see first-hand if that 30-06 of yours cuts the mustard.
